Roosevelt island is right off of Manhattan, in the middle of the East River. Once upon a time, it was used to quarantine sick patients and criminals. Now, like most things in New York, it is high-end real estate. But the smallpox hospital of yore still sits at the tip of the island, lit up at night so you can see it in all it's creepy glory from Manhattan. Here are some photos:
